Not too large, not too small, but just right. That’s exactly where you’ll find Class B Plus campers when comparing the various types of motorhomes. They offer more interior space than camper vans while being easier to drive than most Class A and C RVs. This slightly less common but altogether exigent RV class provides the perfect middle ground for motorhome shoppers, something we know Goldilocks would love. Have you heard of a Class B Plus motorhome?

Key Takeaways

  • Class B Plus RV Overview: Class B Plus RVs are a hybrid between camper vans and small Class C motorhomes. They offer more interior space than Class B vans while maintaining better drivability and fuel efficiency than Class C motorhomes. Built on cutaway chassis from manufacturers like Ford, RAM, and Mercedes-Benz, they often include slides for additional living space.
  • Top Class B Plus Models: Notable models include the Thor Freedom Elite 24KE (budget-friendly), Eddie Bauer 22ET (high storage capacity), Winnebago Navion 24D (family-friendly with a large kitchen), and Jayco Granite Ridge 22T (luxurious and off-grid capable). Each offers unique layouts and features catering to different RV lifestyles.
  • Value & Investment: Class B Plus RVs strike a balance between maneuverability, interior space, and fuel efficiency, making them worthwhile investments for small families or couples. They provide more room than Class B vans and better fuel economy than Class C RVs and typically range from $80,000 to $160,000.

What Is a Class B Plus RV?

Some manufacturers label these units Class B RVs or camper vans, and others call them small Class C motorhomes. Many Class B Plus RVs include a cabover area for extra sleeping space or storage, a hallmark feature of Class C RVs. However, most are built on a cutaway or chassis cab platform built by popular van chassis manufacturers like Ford, RAM, and Mercedes-Benz.

That’s why they’re a bit of a hybrid camper. In addition, Class B Plus RVs offer more interior space than a traditional Class B. Because they are built on a cutaway chassis, manufacturers have more wiggle room on overall length and width to add extra, upgraded features. Yet they remain compact and easy to drive for everyday RVers who aren’t looking for larger motorhomes like Class C or A. Some Class B Plus RVs even include slides to enhance usable space when parked.

Class B Plus RVs are also incredibly easy to drive. Though some will include a cabover, they are often less bulky than a traditional Class C, which improves aerodynamic performance on highways and in high wind scenarios. They are compact enough to maneuver in parking lots and campsites while receiving road enhancements from each individual chassis manufacturer. Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and RAM each offer specialty safety features and infotainment experiences.

If you want a small motorhome with more space and flexibility than a traditional van camper, these Class B Plus RVs are the perfect fit. Let’s explore our favorites.

Thor Class B Plus Motorhomes

Thor Motor Coach is one of America’s largest RV manufacturers. Its tried-and-true configurations are perfect for the everyday camper. Thor also offers more affordable RVs, making them perfect for entry-level or budget-conscious shoppers.

Freedom Elite 24KE

Specs

  • Length: 25’10”
  • Chassis: Ford Transit
  • GVWR: 11,000 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 3
Best for the Budget Shopper

Let’s start with the most affordable model on the list—the Freedom Elite 24KE. This Class B Plus RV packs a punch for its price tag. It includes a driver’s side slide to expand the living area, and the rear twin beds can be converted to a spacious king bed.

The Freedom Elite is an efficient design—nothing revolutionary, but it gets the job done with everything you need. Its bright and open design includes a cabover skylight to increase natural light.

The jackknife sofa safely accommodates two extra companions and has anchors for car seats for the growing adventurer. At night, it can be converted into an extra sleeping space for a third guest. Because this model only sleeps three, it’s best for couples or small families. People needing more sleeping space should consider the Ekko Sprinter or a pop-top Class B RV.

Overall, the Elite is a great entry-level Class B Plus RV for the more economically minded shopper. I’d love to see the bathroom reconfigured to include a larger shower stall and maybe some optional individual desk tables that could be set up on the sofa. But for someone who wants a tried-and-true classic, the Elite is—pun intended—an elite choice.

Eddie Bauer 22ET

Specs

  • Length: 23’7”
  • Chassis: Ford Transit AWD
  • GVWR: 11,000 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 2
Best for the Gear Junkie

Class B Plus campers average about 50 cubic feet of exterior storage. The Eddie Bauer 22ET says, “Hold my gear.” It actually says, “Hold your gear,” because this all-wheel drive Class B Plus RV more than triples the average with a whopping 182 cubic feet of exterior storage.

The rear door provides access to this storage, and the Skybunk queen-size bed can be lowered and lifted to easily access it from the interior. While it includes drawers and cubbies to keep gear organized, much of the available storage is open. When traveling in a similar DIY camper van, we kept our clothes and gear in large storage tubs. If you prefer more organization, this might not be for you. But if you have big gear and don’t mind organizing alone, this Class B Plus RV is perfect.

As the second shortest RV on the list, this is actually a pretty stacked interior. It even comes with a large 30” by 36” shower stall and bathroom sink with a large countertop—fairly impressive inclusions at under 24 feet. The counterspace is limited, but the flip-up extension gives extra working space.

You can travel with up to four people, but they must bring their sleeping accommodations because the Eddie Bauer 22ET only sleeps two. Don’t worry; with the large rear storage, you can easily haul their tent and everything else you need.

Compass 24KB

  • Length: 25’10”
  • Chassis: Ford Transit AWD
  • GVWR: 11,000 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 3
The Affordable AWD Option

Love the layout of the Freedom Elite, but want an all-wheel-drive RV? Let me introduce you to the Compass 24KB. This has all the same great features, including the twin-to-king bed conversion, but on the Ford Transit AWD gas-powered chassis. At its price, the Compass might be the most affordable AWD van for adventure seekers who want more off-road capabilities.

In addition to a smart, efficient floor plan, the Compass comes with some power. The powerful EcoBoost engine can pull up to 5,000 pounds, allowing you to tow a small vehicle or trailer. Having driven an EcoBoost van, I personally love the way it performs on uneven terrain and steep mountain climbs. I found that it handled keeping up with traffic better than some other van cutaway chassis options.

This Class B Plus RV includes a 19,000 BTU furnace to keep you warm in colder conditions, a tankless hot water heater for rv for endless hot showers, and heated holding tanks. The 4,000-watt gas generator and 100-watt solar panel allow you to go off-grid confidently.

The choice between Compass and Freedom Elite comes down to rear or all-wheel drive. If you want an affordable AWD RV, then the Compass might be the Class B Plus camper for you.

Winnebago Class B Plus RVs

Even if you aren’t an RV enthusiast, you probably know Winnebago. They’ve been a staple in the RV industry since the late 1950s, and they’re always innovating to create the perfect camper for every adventurer. Known for reliability and quality, Winnebago is a great choice for RVers of all experience levels.

Navion 24D

Specs

  • Length: 25’6”
  • Chassis: Mercedes-Benz RWD Sprinter
  • GVWR: 11,030 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4
Best for the Small Family

If you’re traveling with kids, the Navion 24D is designed with a family-friendly feel. It sleeps up to four people, making it easy to hit the road with a few extra friends or your little adventurers.

What I find most family-friendly about the Navion’s design is the super slide with dual-use living spaces. Relax on the sofa for movie night, or everyone can grab a seat in the U-shaped dinette for a family meal or game night. Easily convert the sofa to a Murphy bed for sleeping, and your kids can climb into the 49” x 75” cabover bunk.

The Navion also boasts the most expansive kitchen of the RVs on this list, which I always look for in camper floor plans. The countertop runs almost the entire camp-side length and includes induction and propane-powered cooktops. The spacious fridge and pantry hold everything you need for great camp meals.

I’m also a big fan of the rear bath. It allows for extra shower space and includes a wardrobe so people can shower and change in privacy, a rarity in smaller RVs that may only include a wet bath or a bedroom wardrobe.

For couples working from the road, you can opt for theater seating with swivel desk tables instead of the dinette. With the inclusion of the sofa already, the dinette makes more sense than a second sofa. But your RV, your rules!

Whatever options you choose, the Navion is a fantastic diesel-powered Class B Plus RV.

Ekko 23B

Specs

  • Length: 24’6”
  • Chassis: Mercedes-Benz AWD Sprinter
  • GVWR: 11,030 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 5
Best for the Rugged Adventurer

The Ekko 23B is a powerhouse for off-grid camping. Built on the Mercedes-Benz all-wheel drive chassis, this Class B plus RV is designed for performance on the road and in the wild. Use the all-terrain tires to access your next boondocking spot and feel confident enough to stay awhile.

The electrical system makes this RV great for adventurers. It comes standard with a 2,500-watt propane generator, a 320-amp-hour Lithionics® lithium-ion battery, and three panels for a combined 530 watts of solar capture. It also includes 50-gallon fresh and gray water tanks.

The interior is built for flexibility. The front lounge has multiple configurations for relaxing, dining, or working on the road. The wet-dry bath has a shower with a tankless, recirculating water heater for sustainable showers. However, if a cassette toilet is a deal breaker, this might not be your RV.

While not the most homey or luxurious interior, the finishes are still lovely for an RV meant for more rugged camping. It comes with two interior finishes—I would choose the Juniper for the natural wood tones. This Class B Plus camper also sleeps up to five with the optional pop-top—the most on this list.

If you want to take your RV on serious adventures and not rely on shore power, then the Ekko is probably your best option.

Forest River Class B Plus Campers

Forest River is a diverse manufacturer that offers various unique layouts and upgraded features. I love how Forest River’s floor plans differ from other standard layouts. They’re always looking for new ways to optimize the interior and exterior features of their RVs.

Forester TS 2381F

Specs

  • Length: 25’6”
  • Chassis: Ford Transit
  • GVWR: 10,360 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 3
Best for Couples

The Forester TS 2381F is no exception to Forest River’s unique layouts. For a Class B Plus camper, this feels like a small studio apartment. While most RVs on the list have a camp-side galley, the Forester instead opts for a corner galley on the driver’s side.

On the camp side, there’s a wardrobe and a fridge, which creates a hallway feel as you move into the rear sleeping area. This separation of space is why I think it has a more homey feel. Couples can also enjoy a cozy two-seat dinette behind the cab for sharing meals or working from the road.

This RV’s interior is bright and open despite not having a slide. The light cabinets keep the space from being overly cramped and provide ample overhead storage. The 24” by 32” shower includes a skylight to let in even more sunshine.

Admittedly, I think Forest River should revisit a couple of oddities about this RV. While I love the rear sleeping area, I’d love a Murphy bed or sofa conversion to create a better living space and possibly more rear storage. Additionally, the TV right over the dinette doesn’t seem like it’s the most functional place unless you’re happy to be standing in the hallway facing the front.

Overall, this is a great Class B Plus RV if you want a versatile couple’s camper with a unique interior setup.

Jayco Class B Plus Motorhomes

Jayco is another common household name for RV campers. It is a trusted manufacturer known for superior durability and innovative layouts. It combines quality, upscale finishes, and excellent performance on and off the road.

Granite Ridge 22T

Specs

  • Length: 23’5”
  • Chassis: Ford Transit AWD
  • GVWR: 11,030 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 2
Best Combination of Luxury and Off-Grid

Combining a sleek interior with great off-grid capability, the Granite Ridge 22T is my favorite Class B Plus for 2025. Introduced in 2024, it has been a stiff competitor of the Winnebago Ekko series. However, some RV enthusiasts question Jayco’s mandatory “options” package.

On the interior, you have bright, clean finishes that create an open feel with some pretty unique design features. The L-shaped dual dinette and lounge area create a great space for working from the road, enjoying meals, or relaxing after a long day on the trails. Convert the twin beds in the rear to the ultimate king-sleeping experience. If you want privacy, swing the bathroom door a full 90 degrees and use the magnet to latch it in place to close off the bedroom.

The galley includes a 5.3-cubic-foot fridge, microwave, and induction cooktop. Jayco could easily add a countertop extension to increase the surface area, and I would like to see a bigger fridge.

Take the Granite Ridge off the grid with the 2,800-watt gas generator, 3.9 kilowatt-hour lithium battery, and 360-watt roof-mounted solar panel. This Class B Plus RV also has the largest fresh water reservoir on the list at 53 gallons. The gray water holding tank accommodates up to 51 gallons. Stay connected with the Starlink satellite and optional internet system if you aren’t ready to be away from it all.

Another feature that makes this stand out on and off the road is the signature Jayco JRide® package, complete with Hellwig® helper springs that provide superior stability, comfort, and safety in all terrain scenarios.

Overall, this RV combines comfort and performance in a package under 25 feet, making it my top choice for a Class B Plus camper.

Honorable Mentions

Is a Class B Plus Camper Worth The Money?

When shopping for a motorhome, you’ll likely need a larger budget than shopping for a towable RV. One big reason is that you’re paying for an engine, drivetrain, and all the safety features that come with the chassis the RV is built on. When comparing Class B Plus campers to other motorhomes, owners find them a worthy investment for several reasons.

First, Class B Plus RVs provide maneuverability and fuel economy similar to traditional Class B RVs. However, they are slightly larger and generally feature more interior living and sleeping space, making them more comfortable for longer trips. Many Class B Plus RV floor plans also feature at least one slide-out. That adds even more interior space once you’re parked with your RV slide-out extended.

Most RV slide-outs extend 2-3 feet from the RV’s exterior walls. For example, a Class B RV with a slide-out that measures 10 feet long increases your interior living space by as much as 20-30 square feet. That’s the difference between an RV floor plan with a single center lane and enjoying the added space to set down a yoga mat for a morning stretch. It also allows manufacturers to add luxury features like a king-sized bed, convertible dinette, or theater seating

Compared to Class C motorhomes, Class B Plus RVs also offer better fuel economy and more maneuverability. But those positives do come at a cost. Fortunately, the average prices of Class B Plus campers find a healthy middle ground between Class C and Class B RV designs, with MSRPs ranging from the mid-80,000s to the mid-160,000s.

Class B Plus RVs are the perfect middle ground for adventurers who want the compact drivability of a camper van with the comfort of a small motorhome. Their streamlined design makes them easy to maneuver, but the cutaway chassis has more flexibility for space and slides

A perfect choice for couples or small families, Class B Plus campers are a great option for many RVers. Explore others:
