The Many Faces of RVers 4718

So who is RVing these days? People from all backgrounds, ages, and different life stages are hitting the road in ever-growing numbers.

Here are a few that are documenting their journey:

Married with Pets—Mandy Fierens & Kevin Holesh

Mandy and Kevin graduated from college, got married, and found themselves in immense student debt. On the verge of following the “traditional” path, they were gifted a second honeymoon. Use of Mandy’s aunt’s pop-up camper for a winter of traveling. With mobile-friendly jobs—she’s a destination wedding photographer, he’s an app developer—they decided to hit the road full-time in December of 2015.

They bought and renovated a Keystone Cougar Fifth Wheel and have spent the 18 months traveling with their 2 dogs and 2 cats—with no end in sight.

Eric and Brittany of RV Wanderlust have been RVing full-time with their family since 2014.

Recently, they added a new dimension to their travels. Casper Theodore was born last December, and, as they say, has been full-timing since birth.

While they knew this would be a major change in their lives, after a few months of living it, they’ve come to this conclusion:

Making room for baby in an RV is completely doable. We have it easy; there are families with six or seven children who live in RVs smaller than ours! It’s a matter of perspective. Reality is that people in cultures throughout history have lived with three generations in one-room homes.

A Full House—Keith & Tia Sims

A Full House—Keith & Tia Sims

Keith and Tia are a semi-retired couple in their 40s with 6 kids.

They’re living a slightly different lifestyle than many RVers. The Sims are based in the Atlanta area, but Keith spends 5 months out of the year working for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and needs to be located near their facilities.

Rather than spending those 5 months in Miami living out of a hotel or trying to furnish an apartment that would rarely be used, they opted to invest in a Class A motorhome that they could use for family vacations as well.

Empty-Nesters—Pat & Ellen Prichard

Empty-Nesters—Pat & Ellen Prichard

The Prichards found themselves on the verge of retirement after 37 years of marriage and raising three sons. They were looking for their next adventure.

Last year, they sold their house, downsized their possessions, and hit the road full-time in a Class A Newmar Motorhome. They’ve since spent their time exploring the west.

In the past 6 months, they’ve learned a lot about the RV lifestyle:

I always knew that my “space” was important to me.  From the office to home to the RV to camping spots – I need light and nature and privacy.  RV parks drive me crazy – everywhere you look, you see white 5th wheels and trailers and motorhomes (for some reason the darker ones are easier on the eyes in nature!).

When we boondock out in the middle of no and where with a few relatively distant neighbors, the fresh air, views, birds, and quiet are so relaxing and peaceful.  Every window produces a stunning vista or at a minimum of rocks and bushes!
