Originally from NC, our family has traveled America since September 2021 in our fifth wheel, visiting 29 states and over 50 national park units. We love the roadschooling adventure, learning more about ourselves, our country, and other cultures. Our favorite memories are at Zion and Acadia, where the sweeping beauty has captured our hearts!

IF YOU CAMP WITH KIDS, you understand how important it is for everyone to have sleeping space. Even if it’s a converted dinette, everyone wants a private place to call their own. The best bunkhouse travel trailers provide just that—and more! From lightweight campers with single bunk beds to spacious trailers with two private bedrooms, these campers offer sleeping for six to ten people.

Key Takeaways

  • Bunkhouse travel trailers are ideal for families camping with kids, offering flexible sleeping arrangements—from compact single bunks in lightweight models to private bunk rooms and double-over-double setups in larger trailers that sleep up to 10 people.
  • The article highlights top bunkhouse RVs by size: small models under 5,000 pounds (like the Coleman 13B and Jay Flight SLX 175BHW), mid-size trailers under 30 feet (such as the Coleman 25B and Campsite Ultra 21DF), and large bunkhouse campers over 30 feet (like the Grey Wolf 26DBH and Coleman Lantern 28BHS).
  • When choosing a bunkhouse trailer, families should balance sleeping capacity with storage and living space, ensuring their layout matches their camping style. Weekend trips may require fewer bunks, while longer or larger family adventures benefit from bunk rooms and added amenities.

What Is A Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

A bunkhouse travel trailer features a floor plan with bunk beds. Sometimes, these bunk beds are single-over-single, which are designed for just one child. Other floor plans feature double-over-double bunks, providing space for up to two children in the same bed.

A travel trailer with a rear bunk room offers even more options. There may be corner bunks or a single bunk over a sofa. If there’s an outdoor kitchen, one bunk bed may be replaced to provide extra outdoor space.

Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailers RVs for Large Families

If you have a large family or own a tow vehicle capable of hauling additional weight, these bunkhouse travel trailer floor plans are over 30 feet, maximizing living and sleeping space.

Forest River Grey Wolf 26DBH

Specs

  • Length: 31’9”
  • Dry Weight: 6,507 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,433 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10

The Grey Wolf 26DBH is the shortest of the three large bunkhouse travel trailers, but it still offers ample space with its spacious U-shaped dinette, oversized bunk beds, front king bed, and a shower with a tub. There’s also a pantry closet that offers plenty of room to store food.

Other features that I love include the full outdoor kitchen and outside TV mount. The family can enjoy long days outdoors without ever having to leave the campsite. The indoor kitchen is smaller than those of the next two campers, but with the flexibility of outdoor cooking, this may not be a significant issue for some families. Plus, when you all want to cozy up indoors, there’s an electric fireplace below the TV mount in the main living area.

Specs

  • Length: 32’9”
  • Dry Weight: 6,421 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,253 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 9

The Campsite Reserve 26CJ features a double entry, oversized bunks, an L-shaped kitchen, a large slide-out with a dinette and sofa, and a front bedroom with a king bed. Whether you’re entertaining the grandkids for the weekend or have a large family with three or four children, everyone will have their own place to sleep and sit comfortably.

I also appreciate the hidden storage space behind the entertainment center, which is ideal for storing toys, pet supplies, or camping gear. There’s also an extra wardrobe closet in the bedroom, a set of cubbies by the bunks, and a pantry in the kitchen. Thus, this bunkhouse travel trailer offers plenty of storage.

Outside, there is a TV mount and a kitchen, with the awning stretching over the front and rear entry doors.

Keystone Coleman Lantern 28BHS

Specs

  • Length: 32’11”
  • Dry Weight: 6,798 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,802 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8

The Coleman Lantern 28BHS features a spacious 16 cubic foot 12V refrigerator, making it the ideal appliance for families who need to store food for multiple people. There is also a 3-burner cooktop and an air fryer/convection microwave, allowing you to cook pretty much any meal while camping. Outside, there is a 2.6 cubic foot mini fridge, giving you even more storage capacity.

Like the Campsite Reserve, the 28BHS has a double entry, oversized bunk beds, an L-shaped kitchen, a large slide-out with a dinette and sofa, a front bedroom with a king bed, hidden storage behind the entertainment center, a pantry closet, and a small closet in the bedroom. The double entry is particularly convenient when camping with kids, as the rear door leads directly into the bathroom, making it easy to clean up after a day of playing and exploring.

Honorable Mentions

Top Mid-Size Bunkhouse Campers

If you want more living space while still fitting into smaller sites in national or state parks, these mid-size bunkhouse RVs are all between 25 and 30 feet long. They’ll offer more space without reaching lengths that may exclude you from prime camping spots.

Keystone Coleman 25B

Want to see the latest RVs? Subscribe to the Camping World YouTube channel, and never miss a video.

Specs

  • Length: 29’5”
  • Dry Weight: 5,548 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,952 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8

The Coleman 25B features a private front bedroom separated from the rest of the camper. If you’re looking for a camper under 30 feet that still offers privacy, this 29-foot Coleman camper delivers with sliding doors at the foot of the queen bed.

There’s a good amount of counterspace in the kitchen, and the oversized bunks allow for comfortable sleeping for even older children. I also love that there are two sitting areas across from the kitchen—a jackknife sofa and a booth dinette. These are critical features for a camping family.

Keystone Coleman Light 22BX

Images by Camping World

Specs

  • Length: 26’9”
  • Dry Weight: 4,620 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,880 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 7

Another bunkhouse camper in the Keystone line is the Coleman Light 22BX, which features an L-shaped kitchen with plenty of counterspace for a family. Whether you have boxed snacks to store, gadgets like an Instant Pot or Keurig to set up, or want ample space for meal prep, this kitchen checks all the boxes. This bunkhouse also has a private front bedroom with a queen bed, side wardrobes, and overhead storage.

Like the Coleman 25B, this camper features oversized bunk beds and a spacious storage area located underneath the bottom bunk. While there is a booth dinette, there isn’t a sofa, which may deter some families from considering this floor plan. However, the slide-out and kitchen layout create a spacious play area for younger children or pets who enjoy lounging on the floor.

Forest River Campsite Ultra 21DF

Specs

  • Length: 25’10”
  • Dry Weight: 5,688 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,107 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 7

The Campsite Ultra 21DF features similar amenities to the Keystone campers, including oversized bunks, a booth dinette, and a comfortable kitchen. While the others have a queen front bed, the 21DF has a camp king Murphy bed. One downside to this layout is the lack of a privacy door to separate the bedroom. However, the Murphy option does expand the floor space when transformed into a sofa, providing added flexibility.

I do love the appliances of the 21DF, especially for camping families. The kitchen features a 3-burner cooktop, a large double-door refrigerator with a bottom freezer compartment, a microwave, and a stainless steel sink—ideal for parents or grandparents who need to store and prepare a large amount of food. Additionally, the impressive 2,107-pound cargo capacity allows you to bring all the food and gear you need.

Forest River Ozark 26KB

Images by Forest River

Specs

  • Length: 29’11”
  • Dry Weight: 6,398 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,447 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8

Finally, the Ozark 26KB features two family-friendly amenities that the other bunkhouse travel trailers on this list do not. First, there is a pull-out table that can be expanded for eating or playing games and then retracted for more floor space. Second, there is a nice pantry closet for storing food, kitchen gadgets, camping gear, or toys.

I also love the electric fireplace as an extra heat source for cold-weather camping, the large sofa, and the private pocket door to the front bedroom. This camper has a king bed and oversized bunks, so everyone has comfortable sleeping accommodations. The L-shaped kitchen has ample counterspace, and the kids will love watching the televator rise out of the counter.

Honorable Mentions

Best Small Bunkhouse Travel Trailer

Bunkhouse travel trailers don’t have to be heavy, long, and hard to tow. These smaller RVs have GVWRs of less than 5,000 pounds, offering family-friendly campers that your SUV or light duty truck can tow.

Keystone Coleman 13B

Want to see the latest RVs? Subscribe to the Camping World YouTube channel, and never miss a video.

Specs

  • Length: 15’11”
  • Dry Weight: 2,526 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 974 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Coleman 13B features single-over-single bunks along the campside wall, next to the rear corner bathroom. A galley kitchen is across from the bunks, and a corner bed sits in the front. There’s a single sink in the kitchen, which allows for a smaller bathroom with only a toilet and shower.

One of the standout features of this small bunkhouse travel trailer is the electric fireplace located adjacent to the main bed, along the partition of the bunk beds. With a small camper like the 13B, this fireplace can easily heat the space. Equipped with an electric induction cooktop and an electric wall-mounted air conditioner, this is one of the smallest all-electric RVs available.

Jayco Jay Flight SLX 175BHW

Specs

  • Length: 22’1”
  • Dry Weight: 3,150 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,450 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

The Jay Flight SLX 175BHW is an excellent lightweight camper that can still haul plenty of weight. The layout resembles the Coleman Light 17BX below, but you get an additional 200 pounds of cargo capacity.

The single-over-single bunks are located beside the bathroom, the kitchen is across from the booth dinette, and a queen bed sits in the front. In addition to the sink in the kitchen, there’s also a sink in the bathroom. The overhead cabinets and outdoor pass through storage provide plenty of space for camping gear.

If you’re a weekend warrior who loves to bring a variety of recreation equipment on your trips, this bunkhouse travel trailer may be perfect for you.

Keystone Coleman Light 17BX

Specs

  • Length: 20’2”
  • Dry Weight: 2,745 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,255 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 5

Slightly smaller and lighter, the Coleman Light 17BX features a similar layout with rear corner bunks, a rear bathroom, a galley kitchen along the campside wall, a booth dinette across from the kitchen, and a front queen bed.

The biggest difference (and one worth considering when comparing models) is the bathroom. The 17BX has no sink in the bathroom, and as a result, it feels more spacious. The Jay Flight SLX above includes a sink beside the toilet, but the toilet and sink feel cramped. However, it also has a tub, which is a huge bonus for parents with younger kids.

What Is A Bunkhouse in a Camper?

what-is-best-bunkhouse-travel-trailer-10-2025

The best bunkhouse travel trailers typically feature either a set of bunk beds near the main living area or a private rear bunk room. So, you’ll want to pay attention to floor plans to note the specific layout.

Smaller, lightweight travel trailers won’t have the space for a rear bunk room, while longer, heavier options will feature extra slide-outs and additional bunk beds to accommodate more children. If you only camp on the weekends or have a smaller family, a travel trailer with bunk beds will probably be sufficient. However, if you plan to take a more extended trip or have more than two children, you may want to consider exploring some of the larger campers with private bunk rooms.

When you’re searching for a bunkhouse travel trailer, remember what you’re gaining and losing. For example, you may gain sleeping space for everyone in your family, but you might lose a storage bay. You may gain interior storage for the kids, but you might lose living space. There’s only so much square footage in a travel trailer, so when bunk beds are added, something else must be removed.

For most families, making a list of must-haves is a great way to ensure you get the features that are most important to your camping style.

What RV Sleeps the Most?

Travel trailers tend to offer multiple sleeping areas. Often, dinettes and sofas convert into beds. If you plan to use the furniture for multiple purposes, take the time to convert the space before deciding if it’s right for you. Sometimes, this process is more cumbersome than RVers want. However, in a smaller bunkhouse travel trailer, it may be your only option for providing sleeping space for everyone.

In addition to a few options listed above, here are some of our favorite bunkhouse campers rated to sleep up to 10 people:

We hope you use this list of the best bunkhouse travel trailers in 2026 to find the perfect RV for your family. Check out these other articles for more information about traveling with kids:
