About Contributor

Originally from NC, our family has traveled America since September 2021 in our fifth wheel, visiting 29 states and over 50 national park units. We love the roadschooling adventure, learning more about ourselves, our country, and other cultures. Our favorite memories are at Zion and Acadia, where the sweeping beauty has captured our hearts!

FINDING THE RIGHT FIFTH WHEEL starts with models your tow vehicle can handle. From lightweight models under 8000 pounds to those in the 10,000 to 11,000 pound range, our collection of the best fifth wheels under 11,000 pounds will help you find a fifth wheel you can tow. If you’re specifically looking for 5th wheels under 11000 lbs, compare them to learn if lighter is always better, or if a slightly heavier model is worth the interior or exterior upgrades you desire.

Key Takeaways

  • Tow vehicle compatibility is critical: When choosing 5th wheels under 11000 lbs, buyers must prioritize models their truck can safely tow, considering dry weight, gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), pin weight, and payload capacity.
  • Lightweight fifth wheels offer impressive layouts: Models under 9,000 lbs—like the Keystone Cougar Sport 2100RK, Grand Design 22RK, and Heartland Eddie Bauer 2500RK—provide spacious interiors, kitchens, and cargo capacity suitable for many half-ton trucks.
  • Heavier fifth wheels bring residential upgrades: Fifth wheels from 9,000 to 11,000 lbs, like the Keystone Cougar 290RLS and Jayco Eagle 321RSTS, offer luxury features (e.g., kitchen islands, multiple slide-outs, washer/dryer prep), but often require three-quarter-ton trucks due to increased weight and pin load.

Note on Towing 5th Wheels Under 11000 Lbs

If you’re looking for a fifth wheel camper under 7000 lbs, we have two excellent options from two well-known brands in the RV industry. But before we get to the models, let’s discuss tow vehicles and important weight ratings.

You’ll see the dry weight, aka unloaded vehicle weight (UVW), listed for each fifth wheel. The UVW is how much the camper weighs empty as it rolls off the assembly line. The cargo carrying capacity (CCC) is the weight you can safely load into the RV. Adding these numbers gives you the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which is the total weight allowed per the manufacturer. You must also consider a fifth wheel’s pin weight, which is the rated load that will be placed on your truck’s rear axle when connected to the fifth wheel hitch.

Your tow vehicle should be capable of hauling more than the camper’s GVWR. You never want to tow a heavier fifth wheel than a truck can safely tow. It puts you and others on the road in danger. Plus, it adds stress on a vehicle that isn’t capable of doing the job, increasing the potential for accidents, injury, and expensive repairs. Your truck’s payload capacity must also be higher than the 5th wheel’s pin weight.

Fifth Wheel Campers (At or) Under 7000 lbs

Most full-size trucks are well-equipped to handle these fifth wheel campers under 7000 lbs. But because of their lighter dry weights, you’re more likely to tow them with full-size trucks with lower towing and payload capacities, such as the RAM 1500, Toyota Tundra, and GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

Keystone Cougar Sport 2100RK

Specs

  • Length: 26’3”
  • Dry Weight: 6,885 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,615 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,120 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

The Keystone Cougar Sport line offers three floor plans in smaller, lighter packages than the Cougar Half-Ton and Premium lines. The 2100RK features a spacious rear living and kitchen layout with a single slide. The kitchen counters extend along the rear wall, making meal prep convenient. The entry door is also in the rear, making it easy to pass food outside to enjoy RV patio dining.

Keystone also added theater seating and a booth dinette in this smaller fifth wheel camper. You’ll enjoy adequate seating for a couple and a few friends. The front bedroom has a queen bed, side wardrobes, nightstands, and overhead cabinets. A floor-to-ceiling wardrobe also provides ample clothing storage. If you’re looking for a fifth wheel camper under 7,000 lbs dry, the Keystone Cougar Sport 2100RK gives you everything you need without the added weight.

Grand Design Reflection 100 Series 22RK

Images by Grand Design

Specs

  • Length: 26’11”
  • Dry Weight: 7,000 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,995 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,130 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

Like the Cougar Sport, the Grand Design Reflection 100 Series offers lightweight alternatives for RVers who love high ceilings and ample storage without the added weight. The 22RK is another rear kitchen 5th wheel, similar to the 2100RK. However, this camper is longer and offers significantly more cargo capacity.

The spacious U-shaped dinette sits across from a slide-out with theater seating and a 10-cubic-foot refrigerator. Like the 2100RK, the rear kitchen is perfect for RVers who enjoy cooking inside but eating outside. It houses ample counterspace, a three-burner cooktop, an oven, and a microwave. Grand Design smartly recessed the cabinet above the sink to help you avoid knocking your head when rinsing dishes.

The front bedroom offers a queen bed, side wardrobes, nightstands, overhead cabinets, and a second wardrobe. With a cargo carrying capacity of almost 3,000 pounds, this fifth wheel under 7000 lbs still offers plenty of storage options and the ability to haul all your camping gear safely.

Fifth Wheels 7,000 to 8,000 lbs

Once you factor in their cargo capacities, we’re still firmly in full-size truck territory for safely towing 5th wheel campers near 8000 lbs. You’ll need a full-size truck with one of the higher towing capacities in its class, such as the Chevy Silverado 1500, Ford F-150, or GMC Sierra 1500. The good news is you’re still talking about half-ton trucks with adequate towing and payload capacities.

Specs

  • Length: 29’3”
  • Dry Weight: 7,690 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,610 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,475 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The new-for-2025 Jayco Eagle SLE 24MLE features a huge living space. If you enjoy entertaining or need space for kids and dogs, this fifth wheel camper under 8000 lbs may be perfect. You’ll love the L-shaped kitchen extending along the rear wall and wrapping around to the camp side where it meets the booth dinette. Preparing, serving, and eating meals is seamless in the 24MLE.

I also love the huge tri-fold sofa, which provides good seating and an additional guest sleeping area. A 12V fridge, a hutch, a pantry, and smart overhead cabinetry provide plenty of storage for food and  RV kitchen essentials

The 24MLE features a second slide-out in the front bedroom with a dresser and a wardrobe. There’s also a second linen closet, overhead cabinets, side wardrobes, and nightstands, making it easy to keep everything organized. Despite these storage compartments, this 5th wheel only has a cargo carrying capacity of 1,610 pounds, which is lower than others.

Forest River Sabre 26BBR

Specs

  • Length: 29’10”
  • Dry Weight: 7,823 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,177 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,565 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 7

The Forest River Sabre 26BBR fifth wheel camper under 8,000 pounds features a unique layout with a small rear bunk room. The bunk room has a single bunk bed with a desk, a shelf, and a sitting area, creating a perfect multi-use space. Use it as a sleeping space, a bonus room for gaming, or as your remote office.

The central living area has a tri-fold sofa, a booth dinette, a residential fridge, and an L-shaped counter. The counterspace is perfect for kitchen gadgets, home decor, or holiday decorations.

This fifth wheel has less storage in the front bedroom than other models, but two side wardrobes and overhead storage cabinets remain. However, if you spend most of your time outside, you’ll appreciate the two power awnings with LED lights spanning more than 22 feet combined.

Sabre does have another unique fifth wheel in this weight category in the 25RLS floor plan. Check it out if you don’t need the rear bedroom and prefer additional hidden storage behind a swing-out entertainment center!

Comparisons

5th Wheels 8,000 to 9,000 Pounds

If you have a Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, or Ford F-150 with towing capacities of up to 13000+ pounds and payload capacities over 2200 pounds, these 5th wheel campers under 9000 lbs offer some nice upgrades from the lighter models in the previous section. These two models are still under 33 feet long, giving you plenty of options for campsites in state parks, national parks, or public lands.

Keystone Cougar 29RLI

Specs

  • Length: 32’9”
  • Dry Weight: 8,893 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,107 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,630 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

While Cougar Sport offers Keystone’s lightest fifth wheels, the Cougar Half-Ton line has four floor plans under 9,000 pounds: the 29RLI, 26RKE, 27SGS, and 29BHL.

The Cougar Half-Ton 29RLI is a top choice for its huge living area, which has opposing slides that make you feel like you’re in a small apartment rather than an RV. This space even has a kitchen island, something you don’t often see in fifth wheels at this size and weight.

If you need extra space for guests or kids, the tri-fold sofa and booth dinette provide additional sleeping areas. You’ll love the flow of this open-concept layout when entertaining or preparing meals for the family.

The front bedroom has a small third slide-out, which provides a large wardrobe in addition to the side wardrobes and cabinets above the queen bed. Whether camping for a weekend or taking an extended cross-country trip, the Cougar Half-Ton 29RLI checks all the boxes!

Heartland Eddie Bauer Signature 2500RK

Specs

  • Length: 28’10”
  • Dry Weight: 8,725 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 3,227 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,877 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Heartland Eddie Bauer Signature 2500RK is built for RVers who appreciate Eddie Bauer’s iconic style. With gold handles, two-toned green and brown cabinetry, subway tile, and plush furniture, this fifth wheel is bursting with beauty.

While the interior decor is eye-catching, don’t overlook the 2500RK’s massive cargo carrying capacity. If you’re bringing kayaks, ebikes, paddleboards, and other camping gear, you’ll have no worries about exceeding the GVWR. With storage options like a hutch, a 16-cubic-foot fridge, overhead cabinets throughout, and two bedroom wardrobes, Heartland gives you plenty of room to stow clothes, gear, and gadgets.

The floor plan has a rear L-shaped kitchen with ample counterspace, a booth dinette, theater seating, and a front bedroom with a queen bed and a wardrobe prepped for a washer and dryer. If you want luxury in a small footprint, check out this Eddie Bauer fifth wheel camper under 9,000 lbs.

Fifth Wheels 9,000 to 10,000 Pounds

If you’re willing to stay just under 10,000 pounds, the Jayco Eagle and Forest River Arctic Wolf lines offer excellent models with sleeping accommodations for up to four people. However, you’ll need a heavier-duty truck to tow these 5th wheels under 11000 lbs after factoring in cargo weight. If you have the proper equipment, the Ford F-150 might get the job done, but you might have to jump up to the F-250 or Chevy Silverado 2500.

Jayco Eagle HT 28CRT

Images by Camping World

Specs

  • Length: 32’11”
  • Dry Weight: 9,515 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,835 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,960 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

Coming in under 10,000 pounds, the Jayco Eagle HT 28CRT is another fifth wheel with a spacious interior thanks to two opposing slides. Guests or families will love the ample seating, and the flow from the kitchen to the living area is seamless. The 28CRT also has a kitchen island, a huge pantry, a 10-cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, and an entertainment center with an electric fireplace, making this fifth wheel feel like home.

The third slide-out in the front bedroom creates more space to walk around the bed, increasing storage options with two closets and a dresser. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or small family, this room is comfortable and well-designed to get the most out of a small space.

Unlike comparable 5th wheels of its size, this Eagle fifth wheel only offers one exterior awning. Because it’s not placed over the outdoor kitchen, you don’t enjoy as much outside cooking convenience as with other models. However, this brand has several other floor plans in this weight category, including the 29RLC and 31QCD.

Forest River Arctic Wolf 3250SUITE

Images by Camping World

Specs

  • Length: 36’1”
  • Dry Weight: 9,668 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,372 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 1,840 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Forest River Arctic Wolf 3250SUITE offers a similar floor plan to the Eagle HT above, but this camper flips the living area layout in the living area to put the seating on the camp side. You have a tri-fold sofa along the rear wall. Theater seating and a dinette are situated in the campside slide-out. The opposing slide-out houses the entertainment center and a section of the kitchen. I love the hidden shelves behind the entertainment center that provide additional storage.

In the front bedroom, a king bed sits in the slide-out, which creates ample space to move about comfortably. You’ll love the electric fireplace at the foot of the bed and the huge wardrobe along the front wall, which includes washer and dryer hookups. If you’re looking for a 5th wheel under 10,000 lbs with bunk beds, Arctic Wolf offers another option in the 331BH floor plan.

5th Wheels 10,000 to 11000 lbs

Our final options for 5th wheel campers under 11000 lbs can sleep up to six people and have three slides, making them the heaviest options in this list. However, they’ll offer everything you need and then some for a comfortable and enjoyable camping trip. While a half-ton truck may have a towing capacity to handle these weights, the payload capacity will probably fall short. As a result, you’ll likely need a truck like the Ford F-250, Chevy Silverado 2500, or RAM 2500.

Keystone Cougar 290RLS

Images by Camping World

Specs

  • Length: 33’8”
  • Dry Weight: 10,567 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,333 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 2,060 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

The Keystone Cougar 290RLS is another rear living camper with opposing slides, ample seating, a kitchen island, and overhead cabinetry. Highlights include a tri-fold sofa for additional sleeping space, a pantry, a hutch, hidden storage behind the entertainment center, and a ceiling fan, all creating a space that feels like a small apartment on wheels.

The front bedroom has a queen bed, side wardrobes, overhead cabinets, and a small slide-out with another wardrobe. This 5th wheel is also prepped for a washer and dryer, and I love that the exterior has two awnings to provide complete shade or rain protection. Whether traveling extensively or just adventuring on the weekends, the Keystone Cougar 290RLS includes everything you need.

Jayco Eagle 321RSTS

Images by Camping World

Specs

  • Length: 36’8”
  • Dry Weight: 2,130 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,130 pounds
  • Pin Weight: 2,155 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

Finally, the Jayco Eagle 321RSTS is a spacious rear living 5th wheel floor plan thanks to two opposing slides. The kitchen and living areas more than cover the bases for function and comfort:  a tri-fold sofa, theater seating, a dinette, a kitchen island, an entertainment center with a fireplace, a pantry, a hutch, and a 16-cubic-foot 12V fridge.

This 5th wheel under 11,000 pounds has a king bed in the slide-out, providing easy access to walk around the bed and get to the spacious wardrobe in the front cap. A dresser sits at the foot of the bed, and washer and dryer hookups are in the front closet.

If you love to cook outside, the JayPort™ system is designed to easily set up an outdoor grill or griddle. It features a 2” mount with nearby access to an LP quick connect and hot and cold water connections. I love that two large awnings stretch along the entire camp side, allowing you to enjoy shade on hot summer days or protection from light rain when you need to let the dog out.

What Is the Average Weight of a 5th Wheel RV?

Most fifth wheels are heavier than travel trailers because they tend to have more slide-outs, more residential-type furniture and kitchen appliances, and higher ceilings. All of these features add weight. This is why most 5th wheels can’t safely be towed by half-ton trucks.

Because there is such a wide range of fifth wheels on the market, it’s difficult to suggest an average. You’ll find lightweight options under 7,000 pounds and full-size luxury models closer to 20,000 pounds.

Can I Tow a Fifth Wheel with a Silverado 1500?

There are certainly fifth wheels designed to be towed by full-size trucks like the Chevy Silverado 1500. Any RV manufacturer advertising a half-ton towable fifth wheel specifically builds those models with full-size towing capacities in mind.

That said, your truck’s specific year, make, model, and trim package must be known to accurately determine your maximum towing and payload capacities. Some will tell you that you’re safe if your tow vehicle has a towing capacity greater than your camper’s gross weight and a payload capacity greater than your camper’s loaded pin weight. Others recommend keeping your gross trailer weight and loaded pin weight below 80% of your vehicle’s rated capacities to minimize wear and tear on your engine, drivetrain, suspension, and other components.

Understanding 5th wheel weights and dimensions is critical to making the best and safest RVing decisions. Each truck has different capacities, so you need to know your vehicle’s ratings.

What Is the Biggest Camper You Can Pull with a Half-Ton Truck?

The highest towing capacities of half-ton trucks top out around 11,000-12,000 pounds, and payload capacities top out around 2,000-2,500 pounds. Every truck has different capacities. Manufacturers establish these ratings based on the truck bed length, engine, axle ratio, and other build features. So, one half-ton truck’s towing and payload capacities may be enough for a 10,000-pound fifth wheel with a 2,000-pound hitch weight, while another truck’s build is more limited.
