IF YOU ENJOY CAMPING a few times during the summer or weekend tailgating during football season, a 20 foot travel trailer may be all you need. Lightweight campers are ideal for SUV or small truck owners, and they offer easier towing and setup for first-time RV campers. They may not have the upscale features of larger models, but they also won’t require upgrading to a heavy-duty truck for safe towing.

There are dozens of 20-foot travel trailer makes and models, so finding the right one for you can feel daunting. Luckily, we’ve narrowed the list to lightweight, compact models from industry-leading manufacturers like Keystone, Jayco, and Forest River. You’ll find excellent options for solo travelers, couples, and small families, so let’s dive in!

Key Takeaways

  • Compact and Lightweight Options – 20-foot travel trailers are ideal for weekend camping or tailgating. They offer easier towing with SUVs or small trucks and a range of layouts, from bunks for families to Murphy beds and slide-outs for couples.
  • Top Picks by Brand – Featured models include the Coleman 17B, Jay Feather Air 16RB, and Wildwood FSX 164FBLE, with highlights such as spacious rear baths, family-friendly bunk setups, and versatile lounge spaces.
  • Weights and Axles – Models average around 3,255 pounds dry and offer cargo capacities between 896 and 1,365 pounds. These single-axle campers balance towability with functional amenities.

Keystone 20 Foot Travel Trailer Floor Plans

We’ll begin with three single-axle, no-slide Keystone 20-foot travel trailers. They have all the necessities but none of the extra frills, which means they’re excellent campers for weekenders looking for a couple of days of relaxation or adventure. Two floor plans even have bunk beds, an ideal layout for families.

Specs

  • Length: 20’5”
  • Dry Weight: 3,071 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,229 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 5

The Coleman 17B is one of the most affordable 20-foot travel trailers for families with kids. Despite its compact size, single bunks give the kids sleeping space, and parents still get a front queen bed. Although it doesn’t have a sofa, the booth dinette doubles as a comfortable space for meals or lounging.

The kitchen has a 3.3 cubic foot 12V refrigerator, a microwave, a 2-burner gas stove, and a stainless steel sink. Families will also love the tankless water heater, which allows everyone to enjoy a nice warm shower after a long day of exploring. For campers who want just the basics, the Coleman 17B travel trailer is an excellent choice!

A few inches shorter and over 300 pounds lighter, the Coleman Light 17BX is worth comparing.

  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 3

Moving to a lightweight 20-foot RV trailer designed specifically for couples, the Coleman Light 17RX offers a spacious rear bath for its size, including a linen closet. The front queen bed faces east-to-west, which means there is room for nightstands on both sides.

In the main living area, the 17RX has a booth dinette and a kitchen with a stainless steel sink, a 3.3 cubic foot 12V refrigerator, a microwave, and a 2-burner gas stove. While there isn’t a sofa, the booth dinette doubles as your lounge space, and there’s a 12-foot awning to provide ample shade for outdoor sitting.

Three inches longer and just over 350 pounds heavier, compare the Coleman 17R.

Our Top 20-Foot Campers from Jayco

In these three Jayco 20-foot travel trailer floor plans, you’ll find one with a Murphy bed, one with a rear bathroom and an L-shaped kitchen, and another with a corner bathroom and a larger sofa in the slide-out. While none have bunk beds, they offer a second sleeping space on a couch.

Specs

  • Length: 20’2”
  • Dry Weight: 3,775 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,220 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Jay Feather Air 16RB features one slide-out to create a spacious central living area. While it’s only about 20 feet long, it feels much larger. If you have a young child who likes to play on the floor or a dog who needs a place to lounge, this camper may be a perfect fit.

The rear bathroom stretches the entire wall and has a sink, shower, toilet, and medicine cabinet. The L-shaped kitchen features ample counterspace and overhead cabinetry. If you like to cook and need a lot of kitchen space, the Jay Feather Air 16RB delivers.

The jackknife sofa provides a second sleeping area if needed, and the queen-size bed up front sits north-to-south with storage options above. Outside, you have a 13-foot awning and a griddle for outdoor cooking. This is one of the most spacious 20-foot travel trailers, so we love this layout.

Specs

  • Length: 19’7”
  • Dry Weight: 3,810 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,340 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Jay Feather Air 16FBS is another single-slide 20 foot travel trailer, but this one features a rear corner shower, a front queen bed, and a jackknife sofa in the slide. The bathroom and kitchen are smaller than in the 16RB, but you get extra pantry storage and a cabinet under the TV. You won’t have problems finding places to store camping gear, kitchen essentials, and clothing in this trailer.

The sofa provides a second sleeping space if you’re camping with friends or have the grandkids one weekend. However, if you’re camping with more than two people regularly, consider some of the other 20-foot travel trailers on this list. The interior may feel too cramped in the 16FBS.

Specs

  • Length: 20’2”
  • Dry Weight: 3,630 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,365 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The Jay Feather Air 15MRB is a no-slide option by Jayco. The front sofa offers a comfortable lounge area, and the booth dinette sits across from the kitchen on the camp side. To get a good night’s sleep, you’ll simply lower the 60” by 75” Murphy bed.

The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, a 2-burner gas stove, a sink, and a refrigerator. An outside griddle is mounted underneath the 13-foot power awning for extra cooking versatility. The bathroom stretches along the entire rear wall, offering enough room to move around comfortably. If you don’t mind the Murphy bed, this layout provides everything you need for an enjoyable camping weekend.

Across from the lounge is a galley kitchen with a 2-burner cooktop, microwave, sink, and fridge. A queen bed sits in the front of the camper with dual bedside nightstands and wardrobes, and a spacious rear bathroom provides ample countertop space for toiletries. The living space is tight because there is no slide-out, and the lounge takes up a good amount of room. But you have everything you need and a great sitting area with a window!

What Class is a 20 Foot RV?

You’ll find 20-foot RVs in the motorized and towable categories. Class B RVs, also known as camper vans, offer the most motorized options under 21 feet. However, smaller Class C motorhomes provide secondary sleeping space above the cab. Class C RVs are also built on a truck chassis instead of a van chassis. So if you prefer that driving experience, you’ll want to look at smaller Class C campers. Travel trailers, pop-ups, and teardrops offer the most selection in the towable categories, with travel trailers providing the most space and amenities.
