FOR SOME, the comforts of home make RV camping more enjoyable and relaxing. We’re talking residential appliances, king beds, larger showers, and plenty of kitchen countertop space. While an RV with a dishwasher is still harder to find, there are more options for fifth wheels with washer-dryer units. If you’re looking for the same amenities on the road as you have at home, the RV industry is answering the call!
Key Takeaways
- Residential Integration: RV manufacturers are meeting the demand for “home-on-the-road” comforts by making washer and dryer prep standard in large, full-profile fifth wheels, often tucking them into clever locations like mudrooms, closets, or even under bathroom sinks.
- Diverse Layout Options: While most laundry-ready models are over 40 feet long and feature luxury amenities like king beds and dishwashers, smaller travel trailers (under 30 feet) and Class A/C motorhomes are also available with hookups for those willing to sacrifice storage space.
- Functional Trade-offs: Despite the convenience, onboard laundry units come with downsides, including reduced storage, high water and power consumption (limiting boondocking), added weight, and smaller load capacities than residential machines.

Once you get into full-profile fifth wheels, washer and dryer prep are almost always standard. They help campers save time and money. Forest River Cedar Creek Cottage 412FWC

The rear living room has a comfortable sectional sofa across from the entertainment center, a wine bar, and a flip-up desk.
Whereas the washer and dryer hookups have been in a central mud room for all fifth wheels to date, the 412FWC has them hidden in their own dedicated cabinets in the wall separating the kitchen from the central bathroom.
It still boasts a small mud room right to the left of the entry door, but this destination-style 5th wheel is all about maximizing interior space for living and entertaining, creating an open, inviting space to share with friends.

Honorable Mentions
What Is the Smallest RV That Has a Washer and Dryer?
Most 5th wheels with a washer and dryer as a standard feature are well over 40 feet long and require a heavy-duty truck for safe towing. If you’re willing to expand your search to RVs with washer-dryer hookups in a closet, you’ll have many more options. While they will require purchasing and installing (or having a professional install) the washer-dryer unit, you’ll find several travel trailers well under 30 feet that allow you to do laundry from anywhere on the road.
Here are three of our favorites:
- Rockwood Mini Lite 2523MBR – under 26 feet with a 6,313-pound dry weight.
- Cougar 26LBW – under 31 feet with a 7,195-pound dry weight.
- Eagle HT 265FKDS – under 32 feet with a 7,920-pound dry weight.
If you’re looking for a smaller motorhome with a washer and dryer, the Class C Thor Quantum KW29 has a rear closet with hookups, and it’s only 31 feet long. The Class A Coachmen Pursuit 31ES is only 33 feet long and also offers a similar option with hookups in a bedroom closet.
What Is the Downside of a Washer/Dryer Combo?
One of the biggest downsides of an RV with a standard washer and dryer is the loss of storage space. RVs are already small, so when you eliminate a closet or drawers to put in a washer and dryer, you’re losing space for clothes, toiletries, linens, and more.
These amenities also use a lot of water and power. For RVers who enjoy boondocking, this is certainly a disadvantage. RV washers and dryers are also smaller than residential models, which means they take longer to complete a load. You might be able to fit 4-5 pairs of pants in an RV washer, compared to 10 or more at a laundromat or campground facilities.
Finally, adding a washer and dryer adds weight to your RV. If you’re already at maximum cargo capacity, the extra 150 to 200 pounds could be dangerous.

My girlfriend and I are going to be a new owner on a fifth wheel travel trailer to live in til we get our funds right to go something bigger. Living in a fifth wheel travel trailer has more room and space than the smaller ones.
Congrats Christopher!
