DID YOU KNOW that some RVs come with bonus rooms? With mid bunk fifth wheels, versatility is the name of the game. From private sleeping spaces for kids to petite office spaces on the road, these 5th wheels with central bunks offer some of the best flexibility for large camping families.
Many fifth wheel bunkhouses place the bunk room at the rear, either eliminating window space or reserving it for an area mainly used for sleeping. Instead, mid bunk 5th wheel floor plans often reserve the rear section for spacious and functional kitchens and living areas, designed to bring the whole family together with ease.
Key Takeaways
- Mid-bunk fifth wheels maximize versatility, offering a central bonus room that can serve as a bunkhouse, office, or hobby space—freeing up the rear for larger living and kitchen areas ideal for families or couples.

- These floor plans combine comfort and innovation, featuring built-in projectors, workstation sinks, oversized windows, and convertible sleeping arrangements—making mid-bunk fifth wheels among the most flexible and livable RV layouts available.

ToggleWhat Is a Mid Bunk Fifth Wheel?
Let’s break down the phrase “mid bunk 5th wheel”:
Mid = middle
Bunk = bunkhouse or bunk room
Fifth wheel = a towable trailer that uses a specialized 5th-wheel hitch
So, a mid-bunk fifth wheel is a 5th wheel trailer featuring a central bunkhouse. In addition to the bunks, many include versatile seating and storage in this middle space. Some further take advantage of the height of a fifth wheel and offer a loft for added sleeping capacity.
Travelers without kids shouldn’t overlook the mid-bunk fifth wheel, as their bonus rooms can be used for various purposes. Create a private office, mancave, craft room, or any other space your heart desires.

Prime Time Crusader 38BONUS

Specs
- Length: 43’4”
- Dry Weight: 13,568 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 3,027 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8
Favorite Feature: Rear Kitchen Layout
When you step inside the Crusader 38BONUS, you are greeted by an open, airy living space with a massive L-shaped sofa, a desk, and a freestanding table and chairs.
The rear kitchen is a standout, with a smart wrap-around layout that puts everything in easy reach. It offers a floor-to-ceiling pantry, real wood cabinet doors, and an all-in-one accessory sink. The 16-cubic-foot 12-volt refrigerator can run on battery power, keeping perishables cold on the road.
As someone who has traveled with kids and guests, I know how desirable the second half bath off the 38BONUS’ bunk room can be. The mid bunk also has a unique layout, with a glide-out sofa and a loft accessible above. Since the loft isn’t open to a hall or living room, it offers additional privacy. Kids would really love having their own space!
Forest River Salem Hemisphere 369BL

Specs
- Length: 43’
- Dry Weight: 11,669 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,481 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10
Favorite Feature: Bedroom A/C + Washer-Dryer Prep
I’ve looked at a lot of RV decor, and the Salem Hemisphere 369BL makes me do a second take. “Fresh and modern” comes to mind, as it offers a mix of unique furniture, earth-toned colors, and visually appealing textures. The freestanding dining chairs are rounded and plush, rough-hewn baskets top a pantry, and sleek light fixtures illuminate the kitchen. Even the bathroom mirror has visual interest, with an elongated semi-circle shape and accent lighting.
While some fifth wheel lofts feel confining, the 369BL boasts best-in-class ceiling height and a window to let in natural light. Built-in shelves add more livability to the space. The mid-bunk bedroom below features a Versa Queen bed that easily converts from a sofa to a bed. A dresser rounds out the room.
The modern design elements continue into the front bedroom, which features a custom king bed, thoughtful accent lighting, built-in shelves by the headboard, and ample outlets. The large front-cap closet has washer/dryer prep. The bedroom promises to stay extra cool, thanks to the additional air conditioner. A feature I especially like is the window blinds lined with thermal foil backing, which helps keep out the heat and light.
Forest River Campsite Elite 36RF
Specs
- Length: 42’9”
- Dry Weight: 12,588 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,800 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 9
Favorite Feature: Projector and Screen in the Bedroom
The Campsite Elite 36RF is packed with unexpected features. First, it offers something I’ve rarely seen in an RV: a built-in ceiling-mounted projector and pull-down screen in the main bedroom for the ultimate cozy movie night. The screen doubles as a window shade, so you don’t give up window or wall space for a TV.
The mid bunk is just as impressive, as it’s loaded with built-in storage, including a desk with drawers, hanging hooks, a shoe closet, several shelves with storage cubes, and an ottoman that provides the perfect place to tuck away spare blankets. Additionally, the sofa folds out to accommodate two, and a flip-up bunk tucks away when not in use or unfolds for an extra bed. I love this versatility.
While the living room entertainment center looks normal, with a large TV and electric fireplace, it actually opens to reveal a huge hidden pantry. The kitchen island has a carved-out space for dog dishes, complete with a handy water fill. Forest River even adds a touch of luxury to the bathroom, with an oversized shower with a seat and sliding doors.
Jayco Eagle 355MBQS

Specs
- Length: 42’1″
- Dry Weight: 13,115 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,285 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8
Favorite Feature: Updated 2026 Decor
Large pantry, king bed, and outdoor kitchen—what more could you want? The Eagle 355MBQS checks all the boxes for a family or couples-friendly mid-bunk camper. The entire crew can gather in the spacious rear living area, which features two sofas and a roll-top dinette with freestanding chairs and convertible configurations, allowing you to use it for meals, work, or crafts.
After years of Jayco’s white-centric Modern Farmhouse decor dominating the scene, this year’s Cali Linen introduces more natural wood tones and plush sofas outfitted with soft fabrics, rather than leather. I’m sure my husband would claim one for his napping spot.
The mid bunk features a tri-fold sofa but offers no additional beds; however, a spacious 64” x 76” loft is available above. While this may not work as well for large families, the layout would be especially great for couples, as the bonus room is perfect for an office and lounge space, with the comfy sofa. The shiplap ceiling and gold fixtures add a modern touch, and the loft above boasts ample storage space.
Keystone Montana High Country 385BR

Specs
- Length: 40’9”
- Dry Weight: 13,794 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,891 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10
Favorite Feature: Oversized Windows
The Montana High Country 385BR offers a refined mix of colors, tones, textures, and patterns, creating a feast for the eyes. The huge windows surrounding the rear living space certainly caught my eye. However, this mid-bunk 5th wheel isn’t all about looks. It also features amenities such as washer-dryer prep, JBL speakers, Starlink prep, an outdoor kitchen, and a kitchen pantry.
The bunk room features a cozy lounge space with a hide-a-bed sofa, a desk, and ample storage. Teens may especially love this hang-out space. As an empty nester, I appreciate that I can use this mid bunk as my office, while still having a place for our young adult sons to sleep when they travel with us.
Inside, the kitchen features a high-rise faucet and a countertop extension, making meal prep a breeze. You won’t have to worry about overheating or getting drizzled at the campground since the 385BR has 28 feet of coverage with its two exterior awnings, giving you plenty of protection from the sun and light rain.
Forest River Sabre 36FLX

Specs
- Length: 41’
- Dry Weight: 12,503 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,800 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 9
Favorite Feature: Gadget-Packed Kitchen Sink
For the family chef, the Sabre 36FLX boasts a game-changing workstation farmhouse-style sink. It reminds me of Inspector Gadget as it features a cutting board, a scrap bucket, a soap dispenser, a high-rise pull-down faucet, a glass rinser, a waterfall sprayer, and a draining container for washing fruits and veggies. After seeing this, I wish my sink at home were half as neat.
For 2026, Forest River is using a taller front cap, giving you space for a stackable washer and dryer in the front bedroom closet. This room also features a built-in projector and screen. I can just imagine rainy days spent relaxing in bed while streaming my favorite shows.
The “FLX” in the model name refers to its flexibility, which is readily apparent in the workspace options. The dining table rotates to create a desk, and there’s a second desk in the bunk room. This is perfect if you have more than one person working, learning, gaming, or crafting at a time, as my family often does.
Forest River Arctic Wolf 3650SUITE

Images by Camping World
Specs
- Length: 43’5”
- Dry Weight: 11,383 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,762 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10
Favorite Feature: Mid Bunk that Sleeps Four
The Arctic Wolf 3650SUITE is one of my top picks for large families. The mid bunk not only features a jackknife sofa and drop-down bunk, but it also has a pull-out trundle bed, giving you room to sleep four. Additionally, the trundle bed features a thick, residential-style mattress that appears plush. The loft overlooks this room, conjoining the spaces and offering additional sleeping space.
With all those beds, you may also need plenty of seats. The 3650SUITE offers the option of swapping out one sofa and the dining table for a full slide wall of theater seats. As someone who doesn’t often eat at a dining table, I would love this upgrade. The setup includes two pop up tables. Additionally, a desk is available in the bunk room when workspace is needed.
The main bedroom features a king bed and an electric fireplace for chilly nights. For long-term stays without hookups, the 3650SUITE offers an impressive 81-gallon fresh water tank. Storage size is equally oversized, with a hidden closet behind the entertainment center, a full pantry in the kitchen, and ample exterior cargo bays.
Keystone Cougar 1776 Edition 360MBI
Specs
- Length: 39’3”
- Dry Weight: 12,325 pounds
- Cargo Capacity: 2,675 pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: Up to 10
Favorite Feature: Flag-Inspired Full Body Exterior Paint
The most striking feature of the Cougar 1776 Edition 360MBI will catch your eye before you even step in. The dramatic red, white, and blue stars-and-stripes exterior practically sings the national anthem. If you want to make a statement at the campground, this is the RV for you. If you prefer something unique but less flashy, the 360MBI offers several exterior paint options.
While most mid bunks have a loft opening above a hallway, the 360MBI also opens the loft to the living room below. I don’t have little kids these days, but I can’t help but imagine tiny faces peeking through the rails. This loft would make a great play area and sleep space for children.
When camping for an extended period, storage is always a concern. The 360MBI has you covered with a hidden pantry tucked behind the living room entertainment center. I love how this offers a spot to recharge a cordless vacuum. Other notable features include dimmable lighting and an extra-large 75-gallon fresh water tank. For me, the most impressive feature is a dedicated 15,000-BTU air conditioner for the bedroom.
See the standard paint job on the Cougar 360MBI.

Do They Make a Mid Bunk Travel Trailer?
Yes, several manufacturers offer travel trailers with mid-bunk rooms. The Forest River Salem FSX 30VC is a versatile mid-bunk toy hauler. The toy hauler ramp can create a patio deck, and a movie theater projector adds pizzazz to family movie night.
Another fun option is the Forest River Wildwood FSX 162RBS, which features cleverly hidden bunks tucked in a slide behind a concealed door. Kids will think this feature is quite magical!
What Size Are Bunks in an RV?
RV bunks come in a range of sizes. You can often find the exact dimensions on the floor plan on the manufacturer’s website.
