Camping World American Flag

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — Camping World and Good Sam today announced a new project to install massive American flags at various Camping World SuperCenters across the country to honor veterans.

The gigantic flags are 30-by-60-feet or 40-by-80-feet, depending on each city’s zoning regulations, and the poles are 130 feet tall. In many cases these will be the largest flying American flags in the surrounding area, the company noted.

“Our company places extreme pride and value on our country and its veterans. A large percentage of our employees and also customers are veterans, and we want to honor them, their dedication to our country and to our local communities,” said Marcus Lemonis, chairman and CEO of Camping World and Good Sam. “By making this proud statement, our goal is to bring local communities together in celebration of everything that has been accomplished by veterans for our country.”

Camping World stores welcome veterans and the local community to attend the formal flag raising ceremony at supercenters that install the American flags. It is recommended to call the nearest Camping World SuperCenter to see the date and time of the flag raising ceremony. Employees are demonstrating their pride and excitement by going a step further to personalize the ceremonious procedure, such as having employees sign the gold ball topper on the flag pole, said Lemonis.

By flying these American flags, Lemonis explained that Camping World undertakes large responsibility, as the costly flags will require a great amount of work and maintenance, such as bringing flags down and inside during severe weather and performing consistent examinations for rips and tears. In many instances, flag responsibilities will be designated to a specific employee to ensure the supercenter stays on top of flag upkeep, he added.

Camping World SuperCenters in Tucson, Ariz.; New Braunfels, Texas; Jacksonville, Fla., Redding, Calif.; and Lubbock, Texas; are among the first locations to display the larger American flags.  Upcoming locations that are slated to raise these flags include Mesa, Ariz; Coburg, Ore.; Ocala, Fla; Valencia, Calif; Meridian, Idaho; and Lake Park, Ga

    So I was driving West bound. I-70 out of Greenfield to Indianapolis Today. As I am driving, I see a very beautiful massive large American Flag flowing in the wind.. I get closer and closer and I could not believe how beautiful It was at Camping World off of the interstate. I almost pulled over to get pictures or video. I’ll probably go that way again soon. Just to see that flag.

      Hi Katherine, yes, that’s a fairly recent Camping World location near Greenfield. I also drove by for the first time a few days ago, and the flag certainly stands out. Looked like a good selection of Class As in the lot.

    @Lee
    Every time I drive by Camping World and their big “a$$” flag, I am proud to be an American.

    “United States flag law does not specify the proportions of the flag. The proportions of 10:19, so often quoted, are the product of an executive order of the president, and are actually binding only in certain military uses. The United States government buys and uses flags in several other proportions (2:3, 3:5, 5:8) for numerous civilian and military applications. Private citizens are free to use their own judgment.”

    Your flags are not properly proportioned to American flag specs. The flag IS NOT 2:1. Your flag is a naked self-aggrandizement to use the FLAG to promote your locations. Sign zoning regulations would not permit a “Camping World” flag this size. You use the massive American flag, (just as Perkins did), to end run the sign ordinances. It’s nauseating- and worse- you don’t have the decency to fly a properly proportioned flag. “We love VetS”- my a$$.

    I FULLY SUPPORT your choice to fly large American Flags at so many of your locations. However, I recall seeing that some of the flags are on poles that are not long enough for such a flag. When a flag is required to be lowered to half mast the pole MUST be tall enough to do so.

    I KNOW the flag pole at your location in my hometown is not tall enough to accommodate the flag at half mast because I saw it. Don’t give the groups trying to stop old glory from flying proud ANY ammunition to win in court by having an inadequately sized pole to fly it from.

  • Steve Reed says:

    Thanks for doing this and not backing down. It seems crazy that your business is being harassed for being patriotic. I never thought I’d live to see the where one shows their love of the country as being a bad thing.
    I’ll make sure to tell all my friends and family to patronize your business to further support you.

    -Steve
